Kijanya was born on November 12, Thierry Kijanya in Burundi (Central Africa) and started to sing at the early age of 8 years old. Kijanya plays various instruments such as guitar, keyboard and harmonica.
He plays traditional African music as well as world music. His first album “Gahinga” was released in 2006 followed by a tour in Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Egypt and Congo. His single “Ihorere mama” made Kijanya one of the famous artists of the Great Lakes region of Africa. He sings and composes in English, French, Swahili and Kirundi. After this successful debut, Kijanya decided to immigrate to Canada where he performed in different cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton. Established in Toronto since April 2009, Kijanya has performed for Leave Your Mark/Laisse Ta Marque, a non for profit organization helping kids, he also performed at Xaware Toronto, an African music festival, where he performed with a popular Senegalese artist Tamsir Seck. He was one of the featured artists in the Toronto African Dance Festival in 2009 and Bana y’Afrique Festival in 2010.
Kijanya was the guest artist for the Black History Month concert organized by Centre francophone de Toronto in February 2010. Kijanya is one of the rising stars on the Toronto Indie music scene. His latest album "Stand Up Africa" was released in the August 2011.
Today Kijanya lives in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada with his beautiful family. His latest single "Been Callin" was released on May 25, 2018 and is available to purchase, download or stream.
